The longest driver of them all

The Acer XF Leggera The longest driver of them all Material: Face: 6-4 Titanium Body: 100% Titanium Finish: White crown and Charcoal Metallic sides Manufacturers can’t just magically remove weight from a massive 460cc titanium driver without some consequences. It’s tricky business. Using very precise manufacturing technologies, weight was removed only from the crown area so as not to affect the strength of the overall clubhead. Available in lofts of 9.5º, 10.5º and 12º. If you don’t want to have the longer length, you can ask for length to be customized to 45″. If you don’t want to have the lighter clubhead, you can go with the standard Acer XF driver – that is also available in a draw version. Comes fitted with the high end Winn DSI AVS 17 soft comfortable grip with all weather playability. We hesitate in having a driver longer than 45″ as that means a slightly heavier driver and also potential loss of control. 45″ works just fine and that’s the recommended length by most golf manufacturers. You can also go with a very lightweight shaft but if you use a regular clubhead, it feels unwieldy. When the Acer XF Leggera clubhead was introduced, it was intriguing. Most driver clubheads weigh 200 grams. The Leggera clubhead is 190 grams. That opens up a couple of options. You can have a lighter 45″ driver and that will give you greater clubhead speed but it will feel different – feel matters. Or you can add an inch [Read More ...]

Set of Hybrid Golf Clubs

When hybrid golf clubs started getting popular, many golfers added the 3 or 4 hybrids to their bags, generally replacing the irons they were finding hard to hit. Made sense. As people started getting more comfortable with hybrid golf clubs, they wanted to have the same or similar clubs in midrange sizes. Golf manufacturers complied and started stretching the top and bottom of the range. Today, you can get a hybrid golf club from # 1 to # 9 and even wedges come in hybrids. It seems odd but it isn’t really. As a golfer, you like to play with clubs that make you feel comfortable and that help you get consistent results. If hybrid clubs make you feel more comfortable, then why not have a set of hybrids. The general assumption is that most people struggle with long irons. However; at InterloperGolf, we see a good many orders for hybrid clubs in the shorter scoring clubs. Many people are ordering # 7, 8 and 9 in hybrid clubs. Initially we were a bit surprised but not everyone is good with short irons – we just assumed they were. Now that people see options available to them, they want to have hybrids there also. Looking at the demand for hybrids, we started tinkering with different make up of sets of hybrid golf clubs. We started with a set of 3 hybrid clubs, generally # 3, 4 and 5. It did decent business but our real success came with the set of [Read More ...]

Wood Like Hybrid Golf Clubs with wide sole

You obviously enjoy the great game of golf. Don’t You? Yet it can be very frustrating at times – especially with those long irons. You hit a decent tee shot but then comes the dreaded second shot. Sometimes the contact is not good, or you hit it on the toe or heel. Instead of going straight, the ball turns around to chase you. Instead of flying high and landing softly on the green, it tries to roll its way to the green – Oh! there is water in between. It’s always one thing or the other. That is exactly where these wood like hybrid golf clubs come to the rescue. If you and I had all day to practice like the pros, we could hit with any club any shot all the time. But we have a job to do and kids to attend to and all the other things that a regular guy has to do. We don’t have that kind of time. We want a club that will work with our imperfections and even if we mis-hit, which is often, it will at least get the ball going in the general direction with a reasonable trajectory. Some of these wood like hybrid clubs with wide sole come with the new Acculite steel shafts. Conventional steel shafts are 120 to 130 grams. These light weight steel shafts are 90 to 95 grams. The lighter weight helps generate faster swing speeds and that translates to greater distance. The lower center [Read More ...]

We test golf clubs and then post the reviews on our website. Being an e-commerce company, our customers don’t get to physically hold and feel the clubs so we try to do a good job of explaining the clubs. Doing a comparative analysis also helps customers understand which club performs better under specific circumstances. It’s expensive, it’s time consuming and requires a lot of physical effort but it helps our customers make a more informed decision. We sell more hybrid clubs than anything else, so we test them first. This years review of hybrid clubs has now been posted on our website. You’ll find it helpful. What we were particularly interested in was the new Apollo Acculite 95 grams and 75 grams steel shafts. Generally steel shafts are 120 to 130 grams. The Acculites are considerably lighter. We thought there would be considerable loss of control due to the lighter shaft but we were proven wrong. Lighter shaft translates to lighter club translates to faster swing speeds and that translates to greater distance – all that without loss of control – what’s not to love! We test for different type of shots so what we rank # 1 may not necessarily be # 1 for you. Do spend some time understanding why we test the way we do and it will give you a better appreciation for our effort and a better understanding of the rankings. Buddy system for junior golfers in the Dallas area Would you like your son or daughter to practice golf together with other kids rather than with their father? I have this problem – I like to take my son to practice and I enjoy it but I think my son would enjoy practice more if there were other kids around. There are junior leagues in the Dallas area but they are more formal. They have membership dues and tournaments etc. I don’t want any of that. I just want my son to practice and play golf with other kids – no dues – no subscriptions – no tournaments. Just kids practicing together and having fun playing golf. If you like the idea, please enter your comments below. I will then contact you. Let’s get together and make golf more enjoyable for our kids. Najee

Set of 3 Wedges - Acer XC

Acer XC       Set of 3 Wedges Set of 3 wedges in lofts of 52, 56 and 60º. Rarely is there any innovation in wedges today as most take on a classic blade shape that was popular decades ago. While the limited offset aids in alignment and the narrow sole allows for the ability of opening up the blade for flop shots and other creative shots, they do little in the way of providing forgiveness when you are not on your “A” game.   The Acer XC wedges possess the thin topline, limited offset and blade-style appearance that golfers have been accustomed to. But the difference is in the weighting which you cannot see in the address position. The undercut channel redistributes material so the there is more weight lower and more rearward allowing for an increased trajectory and spin to hold greens better.  Square grooves offers maximum spin and control on approach shots to and around the greens.   Built with high quality stepped steel shaft with a low to mid kick point. Standard Soft Grips featuring an ultra soft compound that is firm enough to prevent twisting for a great feel in your hands.   Great wedges at a great price – what’s not to like!   Perfect for golfers of all skill levels who are trying to shoot lower scores – especially in the short game. Note: For individual club details like loft, bounce, length, flex etc, visit product specific page for Acer XC Set of 3 [Read More ...]

The big Pooh-bahs of golf thought the modern day golfers are just bomb and gouge players and they needed to be reigned in. Maybe they were making the old timers look not so good. So they decided to change the rules on how deep the grooves of a wedge can be. Let’s see how these guys make par when they miss the green. Let’s see them squirm when their wedge shots fly over the green. So all professional golfers were made to switch to the new groove conforming wedges in 2010. The result: In 2009, 57.5% of the time Pro’s who missed the green made Par or better. In 2010, 57.4%. So much for all that. The winners – wedge manufacturers. Those amateurs who wanted to comply with the new USGA rule dumped their old wedges for the new ones. Those who couldn’t care less for USGA rules hoarded up on the non-complying wedges as manufacturers weren’t allowed to make them after December 31, 2010. For the average weekend golfer, if you are happy with your wedges, don’t buy new ones unless you have worn out your grooves. The USGA doesn’t mind if you play with the new or old grooves for another 10 years – most of you don’t care anyway. If you really want to improve your short game, what can really help you is better technique. Get your hands on a copy of Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible and practice what he preaches. That’s the best way [Read More ...]
